The Japanese Film Festival (JFF), one of Singapore's oldest country-based film festivals, began in 1983 and serves as a gateway to the enchanting world of Japanese cinema and culture. This year’s festival features a captivating line-up of films that present uniquely charming, powerful, and intimate stories of human relationships and experiences. In 2024, JFF celebrates its 41st anniversary with the theme "Continuity," highlighting the interplay between tradition and modernity in Japanese cinema. The programme showcases films that honour cinematic legacies while embracing contemporary narratives, emphasising the dialogue between past and present.

As the festival's art director, I crafted an identity that extends the symbolism of JFF's iconic paper crane logo, emphasising continuity and evolution. The design features the crane transitioning from its traditional origami form into a ribbon-like film reel, creating a dynamic visual metaphor for the festival's ongoing journey. This transformation symbolises the festival's adaptability and growth over its 41-year history while maintaining its core commitment to its roots.
