How Are You, Really? is a non-profit, student-led initiative as part of my final year project in Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, together with three other friends. How Are You, Really? seeks to advocate for a more holistic peer support for individuals suffering from depression, in hope to bring about a positive social change in the mental health landscape in Singapore by promoting mental health literacy. How Are You, Really? was founded on the premise of providing real help to close others in need. It embodies the need for youths to check in with close others on a deeper level by going beyond the superficial and reaching past the surface to ask the questions that really matter.

Together with another designer in the team, we were behind all the artistic aspects of the project. This embodies the creation of logo, choosing of typeface and colour palette to set the artistic style in order to effectively convey the message of the project. The logo symbolised a sticker of a smiling face which is symbolic of a happy mood but is at the same time, intentionally contradictory to sadness, which is usually associated with depressed moods. The peeling off effect was used to illustrate the idea of how depression is a mental health condition of which the signs can sometimes be easy to miss, or hidden beneath a cheerful front. The polarised colours orange and grey were carefully selected to provide a balance between happiness and solemnity. We were also responsible for the creation of all the collaterals presented under How Are You, Really? - including the illustrations, motion graphics and print designs.
