Year: 2021

Hong Kong Film Festival 2021 is brought by a collaboration between the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore and the Singapore Film Society. The film festival presents nine remarkable films, with some even premieres in Singapore. These creative works range from inspirational stories to action thrillers, documentaries to short films directed by up-and-coming filmmakers. Singaporean audiences will be able to immerse themselves in the Hong Kong culture through these movies about perseverance, passion, dedication, humour, love and many more.

As the Festival Graphic Designer, I was engaged to set the art direction to bring clarity and definition to the festival. To create the festival's identity, the Lion Rock was selected as the key visual to symbolise the "Lion Rock Spirit" - which is said to be the core value that is inherited by Hong Kongers over generations, illustrating how grassroots Hong Kongers struggled with poverty, yet keeping up the spirit to never give up no matter how difficult circumstances may be. The colour red was chosen for its emblematic reference to Hong Kong. Complemented by the colour grey, the colour palette serves to bring out the sophistication of the classy city. Apart from art direction, I was also responsible for all their social media collaterals, poster and an 8-page film booklet.
